Rescuetime not tracking some desktop apps correctly, anyone else seeing this?

Hey everyone :waving_hand:

I’ve been using rescuetime for a while and it’s been super helpful, but recently I noticed something odd with how it tracks certain desktop apps — especially creative/editing tools.

For example, when I’m working on video edits, the time either shows up as “Uncategorized” or sometimes doesn’t log properly at all, even though the app is clearly open and active.

One example is when I’m using capcut pc, I’m spending a good chunk of time editing, but rescuetime either logs it inconsistently or groups it into something unrelated.

A few related things I’m wondering:

Is this an issue with how rescuetime detects newer apps or Electron-based apps?

Does this happen more often with apps that update frequently?

Is there a way to manually force rescuetime to recognize an app correctly?

Do you guys classify these tools under “Design & Composition” or something else?

I’m not trying to blame rescuetime, I’m just trying to understand if this is normal behavior or if there’s a fix/workaround others are using.

Would love to hear if anyone else has run into this and how you solved it :folded_hands:

Hi Arnold,

JP from RescueTime here… there shouldn’t be an issue with Electron apps (many things are Electron these days). Apps are generally categorized once they reach a certain level of popularity - CapCut should be automatically categorized as Video Editing. As far as time not getting logged properly - thats something I’d like to investigate with you as it’s not a common issue.

Would you mind reaching out to our support team so we can investigate?

Thanks!
