I recently started using RescueTime on Windows again and I find the new UI Assistant extremely distracting and buggy:
I turned off UI sounds and notification in Windows settings yet every time I boot my PC I get the chime sound on startup (why would anyone ever want this under any circumstances?) and the app Windows is opened.
Is there any way to switch to the old version that just records what you’re doing and if you want to access any additional features you can do it on the web app?
How is this an issue with RescueTime. You need to go into the sounds settings and disable the startup sounds. RescueTime app doesn’t emit any sounds when starting. Nor have I seen any app that does so.
Hi @qqwtyw! Disabling “UI Sounds On” on your Assistant and sound notifications on your Windows system settings should remove most of the sounds. The sound that you mentioned is a stubborn one. We found that RescueTime does not respect all the Windows settings. This bug is under investigation and will take some time to solve. Sorry for the inconvenience here.
You can revert to RescueTime Classic. Please reach out to us at help@rescuetime.com so we can provide details on how to transition.
This was driving me nuts too, and I came to the Community looking for a solution. I had turned off UI Sounds in the app and disabled notifications, but every hour I would get a double chime of a Focus Session starting and then another chime when it ended. The App Instructions only mention the UI Sounds. What finally drove me over the edge was it was chiming during my WebEx meetings (not MS Teams though). Then I noticed Sounds in Windows Settings, and there it was: RescueTime along with System Sounds, LogiTune, and WebEx. Why does RescueTime need 3 different spots for sounds? Anyway, lowering the volume (or you can turn it off) under Advanced Sound Options in Sound solved the issue.
Thanks for the help @fredjmass! Sorry for the frustration. We just soft-launched an update that should fix the sound issue. Please go to your download page to update.
