Got bugs? Leave them here

I use the new RescueTime app on macOS. The app appears to have crashed and there’s no obvious way to recover.

Here’s a screenshot after I opened it from the top toolbar. Here’s what’s wrong:

  • It’s 7:00PM. The app says “in scheduled meetings until 5:00 PM”. That’s way out of date.
  • If I click the gear icon, nothing happens. None of the buttons on the app do anything.
  • In Activity Monitor, I see RescueTime Web Content sucking up 100% of a CPU.

Hi @slasiewski! I believe I have found your account! I’m going to contact you directly regarding this issue.

Any progress about status of bugs / new features? From looks of it , there is not much going on. I am sure that this isn’t really the case but with lack of transparency and slow release cycle with minimal / non existent release notes it doesn’t look good.

Hi all - just wanted to see if anyone else is having trouble with the latest update for the Windows desktop app. I got the “update available” prompt but it won’t install (because I can’t uninstall the previous version due to setup files that can’t be removed). When I load the app currently I get a blank page (although I know my time is still being tracked because I can see it on the browser when I log in).
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi @jane.logan. There was a recent Windows update that may have caused this. Our developers are looking into the root cause. An uninstall/reinstall of the RescueTime app/reboot of your computer should fix the issue. You should be able to remove all previous RescueTime files from your computer. We recommend you remove all files before doing a fresh reinstall. I believe I found your account so I’ll be reaching out to your personally as well.

Hi @peter, we generally reach out directly to users regarding bug fixes. As for feature releases we announce them here and via email. You’re right there should be more transparency. We will work to prioritize this. Appreciate all your feedback here!

Hi @brandon_mattalo. Thanks for this report!

  1. Please restart RescueTime and see if that goes away. That was recently fixed.
  2. I’ve seen this happen with some other subscribers and an uninstall/reinstall RescueTime app/restart your computer should fix it.
  3. I think I found your account. I’ll reach out to you directly for more details
  4. You can ;). I’ll show you how via email.
  5. It’s not broken and the two finger scrolling is intentional for now.
  6. I understand where you’re coming from here. Blocking is currently not available on the mobile, however whenever you leave the RescueTime mobile app during a Focus Session you are prompted with a pop up to re-focus.
  7. Thanks for this feedback! Our product is geared toward work currently but based on your feedback and many others we’re starting to see how this can evolve to support so much more than that.

Hi, i’ve started a trial and ran into an error. The contact page on the website is a dead end it links to the same page: https://newrescuetime.helpscoutdocs.com/
So I’ll leave my question here.

I’m on Mac OS Big Sur, 11.7.something, the app should work for 10.15 and above however it won’t run for me.
Running the executable with terminal leaves me with the following message:
"
dyld: Symbol not found: __ZNKSt3__115basic_stringbufIcNS_11char_traitsIcEENS_9allocatorIcEEE3strEv
Referenced from: /Applications/RescueTime.app/Contents/MacOS/…/Frameworks/libsentry.dylib (which was built for Mac OS X 13.0)
Expected in: /usr/lib/libc++.1.dylib

zsh: abort /Applications/RescueTime.app/Contents/MacOS/RescueTime
"

Suggesting it’s not build for older OSs than 13.
Hopefully there’s a quick fix.

cheers,
Thijs

Is there a way to set up Rescue Time to recognize certain websites as work sites and certain websites as distractions? I can figure out a way to have it recognize the web app I’m using as a focus site, but don’t know if there is a way for it to know the actual websites I’m on while using a particular browser. Also, is there a better browser to use when using RescueTime?

I also am not sure how to link the RescueTime tracker on my computer with the tracker on my phone. Is there a way to do that?

Thanks!

Hi @thijs, our developer is looking into your issue. I’ll get back to you soon.

Hi @kim, are you currently using a Mac. If so then can you enable accessibility permissions on your Mac? We share details on how to do this here.

Could you clarify this question - “I also am not sure how to link the RescueTime tracker on my computer with the tracker on my phone. Is there a way to do that?” The current RescueTime app does not have time tracking. This will change in the next iterations.

Thank you! I am using a Mac, so I will get that set up. And you answered my question for the second question. I didn’t realize the app didn’t have time tracking on it.

Any updates on this? It’s been a week and I still can’t trial this software.

Hi @thijs! Thanks for your patience. This issue should now be fixed. Our developers found a compatibility issue with macOS 10.15 and macOS 11. Could you please uninstall and then reinstall the RescueTime app? Also, please restart your computer.
Please let me know if you still run into issues with the Assistant. Please reach out to help@rescuetime.com so we can extend your trial.
