Very often I’d like to unblock a site like Youtube or Twitter (to look something up primarily) during a focus session. I obviously click “unblock and set as work activity”. However, this appears to then permanently set the site as a work activity, which is not the desired behaviour. Is it possible to unblock a site only within the focus session but then block it again after?
@camin yes you can. When the Focus Session block page appears you can choose to “unblock this session”. We share details about the Focus Session block page here.
Thanks for your response. Just to clarify, if I click “unblock this session” will my time on the unblocked site be categorised as personal or work? Because, for example, if I’m in a focus session and need to watch a youtube video tutorial I’d like that to be considered work but to overall consider youtube as a personal activity
Hi @camin your time will still be scored as Personal Activities. As for the example you shared, you can score each YouTube URL separately. We show you how here.
Recently switched back to a smartphone. Having a rescuetime ios widget for standby mode would be amazing. Could have my phone on my desk and start and track focus sessions all through a widget on my phone next to my monitors instead of using the system tray on my mac.
Hi,
New Feature Request…
As a mere mortal user (not IT Admin), I do not have full or free access to install/update apps on my work PC. While I managed to shmooze, cooerce, promise my first born, etc. to get RT installed, I face the same challenge with updates. Each update requires IT Admin approval rather than a full silent installation.
There must be a method to manage this a bit differently, as RT is now the only app that requires Admin with each installation. I used to have the same on Snagit and through an NFR at them as well, and eventually the pop-up for Admin on each update went away.
This NFR requests the same so I only have to bribe IT on the initial installation (which seems reasonable).
Thanks!
Hey, can you share your setup ? What software made you able to show the timer on the left please ?
Are we able to make rescuetime NOT opening this window after startup ? The first action i’m obliged to make a after startup is closing this window ! Pretty annoying (and intrusive).
Hey @gt1! This is in the plan to remove admin level requirements from install and updates. No timeframe as to when this will be done unfortunately, but this is on our roadmap.
Hi @axiiom.home this is RescueTime’s Focus Session timer. What version of RescueTime are you running?
I’ve noticed that the chart color scheme in my RescueTime Dashboard has changed to Lavender (#c496ff), Red (#dd4d06), Teal (#9fddff), Blue (#6a9bff), Gray (#b1c1bf). I’m not sure if it’s an attempt to provide for people with color perception issues, but I find it very low-contrast and also don’t feel that these colors provide information context – that is, I don’t feel that the colors suggest gain, loss, treading water. I don’t see a place in my profile to change between color options. If there is not, I would like one.
Clickup Integration.
Are there any plans for clickup integration? It should be similar to Trello integration, where I can select the task I want to focus on.
I would like to have a user configurable keyboard shortcut to turn on focus time. As someone with ADHD even a little bit of friction prevents me from using a feature.
A keyboard shortcut such as option+shift+F would go a long way.
I want to switch to Linux as my main desktop but really want RescueTime to track my time and hit my work and focus goals.
Hi @tracy_lee! Thanks for following up on this! For now it is currently unsupported. This is on our roadmap, but honestly, not expected to be available this year. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I use RescueTime primarily to make sure I’m putting in all of my hours for the day. I’m constantly doing mental math to figure out when I can leave for the day. It would be really cool if we could specify how many hours we want to work and the tool would automatically calculate EOD time (assuming uninterrupted work for the rest of the day). Thanks for considering this feature!
I use Windows 11 and would like to be able to track the remaining pomodoro time without having to keep RescueTime Assistant open. I know that during the focus session, the taskbar icon becomes a progress bar, but that doesn’t work for me.
Ideally, I would have the same experience as on macOS where the timer appears in the toolbar, but an improvement would be to have the remaining minutes displayed on the taskbar, just like it is on Microsoft Teams and Todoist.
A public roadmap, looking at your socials and releases compared to something like clickup that constantly engages with the community and has a public roadmap with a feature request page, scares me slightly that all development has stopped on rescue-time.
Hi @andrew_belov! We are working on a public roadmap. Thanks for the suggestion! We see you haven’t used RescueTime for several years now. We’ve done a lot of development actually. Please check us out again when you get a chance!
Also, here is our feature request board.
